PAAD prescription help: the starting requirements

PAAD is for eligible New Jersey residents who are at least 65, or ages 18–64 receiving Social Security Title II disability benefits. NJ PAAD Annual income must be below $54,943 for a single person or $62,390 for a married couple (2026). NJ PAAD Other program rules also apply. NJ PAAD

02

What PAAD members may pay

PAAD copayments are $5 for covered generic drugs and $7 for covered brand drugs (2026). NJ PAAD A generic may cost less when the Medicare drug plan’s copayment is lower. NJ PAAD Confirm how PAAD coordinates with the exact drug coverage. NJ PAAD

Senior Gold uses a different income band

Senior Gold’s annual income band is $54,943–$64,943 for a single person (2026). NJ Senior Gold The married band is $62,390–$72,390 (2026). NJ Senior Gold Applicants must meet New Jersey residency and the program’s age or disability requirements. NJ Senior Gold

04

Read the Senior Gold payment formula

For a Senior Gold-covered drug, members generally pay $15 plus 50% of the remaining cost (2026). NJ Senior Gold After eligible annual expenses exceed $2,000 single or $3,000 married, the copayment becomes $15 for the remaining eligibility period (2026). NJ Senior Gold These are not PAAD copayments. NJ Senior Gold

05

An example explains the formula, not your bill

For a hypothetical $100 covered drug, subtracting the $15 payment leaves $85 (2026 illustration). Half of $85 is $42.50, producing a total of $57.50 (2026 illustration). This is an arithmetic example, not a pharmacy quote or an eligibility decision.

Ask the program how the actual price and other coverage affect your bill. Do not apply the formula to a retail price without checking the rules. Keep any threshold calculations with your official program notices.

If you are comparing assistance programs, label each example carefully. A PAAD copayment and a Senior Gold formula should not appear in the same line as if they were alternatives available to everyone.

Use NJSave for the official application

NJSave screens eligible applicants for PAAD, Senior Gold and several other assistance programs. NJ Senior Gold Medicare-eligible Senior Gold members must have Part D and remain responsible for the plan premium and any applicable late penalty. NJ Senior Gold Senior Gold requires an annual reapplication. NJ Senior Gold

07

Prepare documents without sending them here

Read the official application for the evidence needed in your situation. Keep income and coverage records privately, using the program’s official process when asked to submit them. This website does not collect applications or financial records.

If a detail is unclear, contact the program rather than excluding yourself based on a summary. Ask how income is counted and whether a change in circumstances should be reported. Keep the response with your application notes.

Also review Extra Help and Medicare Savings Programs. Different programs address different bills and use different rules. Being unsure about one should not stop you from checking another.

08

Check the renewal notice as carefully as the first application

Read the program’s current instructions when it asks for a renewal or update. Keep the eligibility period and response date visible. Do not assume an earlier approval continues without the requested step.

If your circumstances change, ask the program which information must be reported. Keep the answer with the notice. This website cannot calculate or confirm continued eligibility from an income figure alone.

09

Keep state and federal letters in separate groups

Put the full program name at the top of each set of notes. Add the date and the action the letter asks you to take. Keep any proof of a response with that same group.

If you call for help, start with the program name rather than only saying drug help. Ask which part of the letter the office can explain. Keep any referral with your notes so the next call starts with a clear question.
